What is a display advert?

Display is relevant if you have a product/service to sell and you want to increase sales/footfall immediately or are interested in raising brand awareness for your company’s products/services.

Display adverts usually appear in the news/sports/listings sections of the newspaper.

There will be a mixture of unrelated display adverts on these pages.

What is a classified advert?

The classified section of Metro Herald is called Metro Life Extra and is separated into different headings or 'classifications'.

These classifications are: Education, Entertainment, Finance, Health & Beauty, Interiors, Mail Order, Motors, Property, Recruitment & Travel.
A classified advert is one that has been designed to appear under a specific heading in this section.

You should place an ad in this section if you want your advertisement to appear in a categorised section with other similar adverts.

Advertisers use classified sections to sell a product or service for direct results.

What are the different ad sizes available?

Metro Herald is 340mm high and 268mm wide. We divide our width into 7 columns. The paper is priced in single column centimetre (SCC) rates. A list of all the possible advert sizes and costs is contained on our rate-card, along with details on how to calculate the cost of your ad.

What is the process for placing an advert?

1. You need to provide us with the following information:

  • What line of work is your business in?
  • What will the advertisement be for?
  • What is your budget?
  • What ad size do you want?

2. Metro Herald will then provide you with a cost, or if you prefer you can go straight to our rate-card by clicking here.

In addition, if you can be flexible about when your advertisement runs, we can offer discounted rates. Please email sales@metroherald.ie or

3. If you decide to go ahead with your advertisement, we will put you in touch with a sales rep who will book it for you and send you a confirmation email. This e-mail is proof that your advertisement has been booked.

4. We can provide a free graphic design service to produce your adverts, please speak to your sales rep if you want to take advantage of this. Alternatively we will need you to supply artwork in the specified format (see Technical Specs).

Graphic File Format (Colour)

  • Scan Resolution: 200dpi ; screen ruling should not be finer than 85lpi
  • Pictures in CMYK format. Saved as eps or tiff.
  • Dot gain at 40% = 26%; Black Generation at Maximum; Black ink limit 90%
  • Recommended RGB to CMYK ICC profile = IFRA 26 or ISO Newspapers 26.
  • All separated elements within the file should have a total ink weight of no more than 245%
  • No spot colours; however pantone with appropriate CMYK mapping is accepted but not recommended.
  • Jpeg files are not supported
  • Neither custom transfer functions nor custom halftones are accepted

Mono file Specification

  • Dot gain @ 40% = 26%
  • Min dot = 5%
  • Max dot = 88%

Text / borders/ rules

  • Recommend use of sans serif typefaces ; fine serif typefaces should be avoided
  • Fonts - All fonts must be embedded, Type 1 or True Type only.
  • Recommended minimum text sizes are:- 10 point and 12 point for reverse out text
  • Reverse text out of more that 2 colours should be avoided
  • Recommended minimum border sizes:- 0.5 point for one colour; 2 point for no more than of two colours

Digital File Specification

  • All files transmitted to us should be in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) although EPSF files with non-OPI images and embedded fonts may be accepted.
  • We use Level 3 postscript

Ad Delivery

  1. VIO Markzware This is a free pre-flight and FTP delivery service and can be downloaded from www.anladvertising.co.uk
  2. ADS Files can be sent using ADS software to ISDN number: +44(0) 20 7838 1069 AdXpress; Details can be found at www.adexpress.co.uk
  3. Quick Cut; All mono ads can be delivered via QuickCut for further informationeither call +44(0) 207 691 5260 or go to www.quickcut.com
  4. Adfast; This delivery mechanism is free to the advertisers. Further details on this method can be found at www.adfast.co.uk.

Deadlines:

Run of Paper: 10am the day prior to publication
Classified: 3.30pm two days prior to publication
Friday for Monday. All prices are exclusive of VAT.

Cancellation Deadline:

Cancellation deadline is 10am the day prior to publication for display and classified advertising. A cancellation fee of 50% of ad value will be incurred for cancellations made after deadline.
