Readers vote for the Irish Cancer Society as their Charity of the Year 2010

Through Urban Life, Metro Herald newspaper readers have for the second time, chosen the Irish Cancer Society as their preferred Charity of the Year for 2010. This means that Metro Herald will donate €80,000 worth of free advertising and provide editorial support to the Society during 2010.

The large majority of Metro Herald readers are 18-44 years old, so this partnership offers a unique opportunity to the Irish Cancer Society to communicate its messages to an audience that are young enough to make positive changes to their lifestyle and dietary habits - key elements in cancer prevention - and to those of their families.

Research shows that younger, fit and healthy people are most difficult to convince of the direct impact that sun-damage, smoking and an unhealthy diet can have on skin cancer, lung cancer and bowel cancer in particular, later in life.

‘This very generous advertising and editorial opportunity offered by Metro Herald will allow us to communicate the positive impact that good dietary habits and other cancer prevention and cancer risk reducing measures, especially giving up smoking can have on your enjoyment of life now, in addition to the undisputed long-term benefits’ commented Jane Curtin, Communications Manager at the Irish Cancer Society.

Appy Days!

Metro Herald have released a new iPhone application, enabling users to instantly read their latest newspaper, scroll and search content and access archived editions. Metro Herald is the first daily newspaper in Ireland to publish a scrolling edition on a Smartphone device.

We believe both new and existing readers will be attracted by intuitive reader displays, plus remarkable zoom and search possibilities. Archives and articles can be searched by keywords and readers may download single pages or editions to read offline. The applications are available to download free from the iTunes store for use worldwide.

“The Metro Herald App takes our newspaper successfully to the Smartphone market, increasing the channels through which our readers can enjoy our product,” said Metro Herald Marketing Manager, Kieran Forde. “The new App allows users to intuitively scroll through each edition and perfectly suits Metro Herald’s design and our urbanite target audience.

“For advertisers and sponsors, the iPhone App offers further benefits, such as links direct from the newspaper editions to their websites, driving customers and revenue streams".
